I’ve posted about summer makeup on the bloggie before (here), and judging by the growing collection of summery hair & beauty ideas accumulating on my Pinterest, it’s safe to say the warmer months are my favorite when it comes to the ol’ beauty routine. First of all, come June I’ve usually worked up enough of a tan to render bronzer unnecessary…always a plus! Secondly, I love the way facial perspiration a dewy glow illuminates my skin. Last but certainly not least, to me there is no competition for natural, unkempt beach hair (except maybe a shiny blow dry), especially now that my hair has finally outgrown the dreadful cut I administered two summers ago! All of these things make my summer beauty routine super easy, allowing me to experiment with new products, techniques and inspirations. Here are some looks I’m currently coveting:soft, messy waves + black mascara + pink lipglossnatural makeup + side braidwhite liner on the inner rim + heavy pink blush + natural lipslong fishtail braidpale pink eye shadow + winged liner + peach blush + pale lipsmessy pony + sneaky braiddewy face + false eyelashes + gold eye shadow + raspberry lipslong superblond hair, natural, middle part + black eyeliner top lids + pink lipsgolden girl: gold face + gold hair + gold eye shadow + gold tinted lipspastel nails
People are habitual by nature. We get hung up on the past, encasing ourselves in a repetitive circular motion in which all spaces of time become our present and we lose touch with the moment. Today becomes yesterday before tomorrow even has the chance to rise and shine.
Want an attainable goal for this week? Move forward in a positive direction. Break the time-warping cycle and view your life as an open road in which the past is left behind you, the future is almost recognizable on the horizon and you become consumed by the nature of the present.
As I grow up, live in my first real apartment, and begin browsing around Craig’s list for next year’s living options, I can feel my inner interior decorator developing. I’ve been a life-long fan of the romantic, french countryside “shabby chic” style famously curated by Rachel Ashwell (I’ve been collecting from her Target collection “simply shabby chic” for years!), which explains why I swoon at the sight of any interior involving white, pink/blue florals, distressed antique furniture (think pale paint chipping off it’s sturdy wooden base), fancy old chandeliers and quirky personal accents that tie it all together. My mom recently gifted me Rachel Ashwell’s Shabby Chic Inspirations, a cover-to-cover goldmine of biblically beautiful, decidedly both shabby and chic spaces. As you can probably assume, judging by the visible access of post-it arrows I’ve already marked pages with, I’m loving this book.
There’s been an awful lot of ballet talk here on the ol’ blog (it is called tutus & stilettos, but still, there is such thing as a tutu overload), so I thought I’d share with you this video of some awesome tutting choreography to one of my favorite songs. I’ve already watched it about 10 times, can’t get over how precise they are! Videos like this are what remind me that I need to step out of my ballerina bubble and explore other styles of dance once in a while. Enjoy!
I went instagram-WILD on my trip to Florida last week! Between daily beach time, two art openings, a ballet class taught by my very own roommie, several delicious meals (including homemade dumplings), numerous cocktails, and an awesome gourmet pizza party, there was a lot to document. Though I thoroughly enjoyed my time down south, all good things do come to an end and I’m happy to be home in the dry, cooler surprisingly humid weather of Providence!
Today my big brother graduates from college! My big brother who opened his home to me last year, who can make friends with anyone and who knows the value of a good flea market. My big brother who plays the drums in his sleep, swims like a fish, and deciphers every level of computer-mumbo-jumbo…he’s growing up for real! And I could not be more proud.
So to my big brother, Tom(my), exclusive co-president of the club we created as kids (and are the only members of), CONGRATULATIONS, YOU’RE FREE!
