studio to street

Sartorially, there are two things I will never pass up: a multifunctional piece and a challenge.

Inspired by creative director at Danseuse/one half of the ever-inspiring Kingdom of Style, Ms. Michelle Haswell, I decided to test the boundaries of my balletwear by taking it outside the studio.  This experiment resulted in the above outfit, best described as unapologetically playful grey on grey with a hint of punk-in-the-Michelle-Tanner-way.

Perhaps not the most sensible outfit choice for yesterday’s little monsoon, surprisingly this look carried me- with extreme comfort- from tea to shopping to more tea, writing, laundering, jazzercising, fig-eating and all of the other fun Tuesday activities I got up to (wake me up when August ends).  I also felt pretty badass knowing that I was secretly increasing the wearability of my wardrobe all day.  So there you have it- balletwear in the real world- it can be done!

PS- stay tuned for a peek at a bit of new Danseuse I’m exxxxxtremely excited about…

october first

oct ecap

Today is the first day of October!  Of course, I celebrated yesterday (my day off from work) by fighting the unseasonably warm temperatures with a thin black sweater and my orange beanie.  I can’t wait for the weather to start cooperating with the season…

I had a lovely “faux” first day of October yesterday, shopping with friends and visiting my dad at his kingdom of chemistry office.  The crazy brilliant engineer stuff that man does like it’s no big deal will never cease to amaze me.

Today the first few guest artists arrived for FBP’s annual Together We Dance gala this Thursday, and ohmygod, they are gorgeous.  More on that in an upcoming post…stay tuned…

12.12.12

photo

As a very superstitious person (is that a dancer thing or an Italian thing? hmmm), when I woke up this morning and realized today’s date, the first thing I thought to myself was “Today is going to be a very lucky day!”.  Now, being someone who announces “It’s 11:11- make a wish!” every day at least once a day, the date 12.12.12 reads to me like an entire day full of opportunities for wishes to come true.  Pause for sighs of adoration.  I know you’re all thinking I’m a big fat cheeseball, but I like seeing the world through my rose-colored lense.  Especially when I’m wearing my matching rose-colored jeans!

So even if you don’t hold your breath over long bridges or pick up lost pennies (heads up only), I’m telling you 12.12.12 is just too good of a date to pass over.  It’s the last time this triple day/month/year thing will happen for a VERY long time- so don’t miss out on all that luck!

Have a fantastic, wish-filled, lucky and inspired Wednesday, chickadeeez. xx

haute hippie

HAPPY thursday chickens!  I hope you all had a fabulous day.  This is just a quick little post about a new skirt I’m completely and utterly obsessed with pretty fond of.  I snatched this Haute Hippie beauty up last night and I’ve already tried it on with several different toptions (see what I did there? combined top + options into one word…genius I know it).  I love it for a whole bunch of fun reasons: 1. The colors are amazing.  My poor quality photo does not do it justice, so please check this out.  2. The fit is almost too good.  It’s short, it’s tight, it sits low on the hips, yet somehow it evades that whole “I just stepped off a pole” thing.  Always a plus in my book.  3. Remember my recent creation of the word toptions?  This skirt is surprisingly versatile, people.  I cannot wait to wear it to the final Up Close On Hope after party Saturday night.  Curious to see which toption I’ll choose?!  Stay tuned…

flower power

I was feeling pretty groovy in this flower power top from H&M today.  There’s something about the juxtaposition of the retrograde pattern on such a crisp silhouette that just radiates cool.  H&M, you’ve done it once again, providing trendy, uniquely current pieces that have true staying power.  Which means I can rock the flower power without feeling like I just raided Marcia Brady’s closet…score.

cashmere and chai

{yoon sweater, free people tunic, frye sandals, marc jacobs crossbody, ray-ban clubmasters}

It is reeeaallly feeling like fall here in Providence!  I must say, as much as I love warm weather and tank tops, I cannot help but miss my cozy sweaters and knee-high boots during those sweaty summer months.  Today I “bundled up” with this ultra soft cashmere cropped sweater by Yoon (last seen here) thrown over my favorite Free People tunic.  Honestly, this dress was without a doubt my most frequently worn item of this summer- I swear I just kept reaching for it over and over, and it never got old.  I can’t wait to bring it into fall with boots, jackets, sweaters, and heels.  Of course the vanilla chai is a mandatory accessory!

What makes you excited for fall?

outfit envy

Hey everyone!  It’s Thursday and I finally finished my 5-week summer class at Providence College last night (WOO), so you know what that means?!  It’s time for an outfit envy post!  Actually, I’m not sure how those two events correlate whatsoever, but here’s some lust-worthy outfit inspiration anyway…
Ashley Olsen doing it up right in a buttoned down button down and black skinnies.  Awesome giant gold watch, too!Good Ol’ Miley in high shwaisted denim shorts and a cropped black sleeveless top.  Love the bag also…I love how this girl made red the neutral and white the standout color in her outfit.  Genius.This girl has got it all right: blazer, long white tee and leggings.  Comfy, stylish, casual, put together.  It’s alllllll going on.  And her accessories are perfection.  Outfit envy indeed.

wear/what/where

{what I wore: AE denim cutoffs, denim polka-dot shirt, old scarf, RayBan wayfarers, }

{what I ate: the famous Hope Street Pizza greek salad with chicken}{where we went: downtown to Kennedy Plaza to watch the FBP summer intensive students rehearse for their showcase}

Yesterday was a good day.  I went to ballet class, had one of my favorite salads for lunch, rocked a new denim shirt from Anthropologie (I braved the whole denim on denim ensemble- how edgy am I?!), did my best Rosie the Riveter impression, and watched an adorable little future-ballerina practicing her pirouettes alongside the ladies of the FBP summer intensive program as they rehearsed downtown for their finale showcase.  Luckily, the heatwave has finally subsided (bring on the thunderstorms!) and life actually seems livable once again.  Every other sentence out of my mouth is no longer a complaint about the sticky, sweaty, humid state of my body and the air around it, woohoo, this is progress people!

At the downtown rehearsal, this one little cutie wanted IN on the ballet.  She was twirling, kneeling down, and at one point even laying down on the ground…doing as “the big girls” do.  My mom pointed out the fact that I used to do this exact same thing when I was young, dancing for a crowd whenever the opportunity arose.  I guess if you’re ballerina at heart, it becomes obvious at a young age.  DAaaawwwwww, getting so sentimental on you all!  Better stop while I’m ahead…Happy Friday, lovies!  Have a fantastic weekend.
