back in the studio…kind of

afterlight

Last week my shoes touched marley floor for the first time in almost 4 months.

When a student from FBPSchool asked me to help out with her audition video, I will admit, I was hesitant.  Back in the studio?  Creating combinations with my hands that my body cannot yet execute?  Watching someone else hold the barre while I press play?  Waves of doubt surged over me.  But it seemed the only way out was in through the studio.  So I put on some big girl shoes and agreed to meet her around noon.

The instant my shoes touched that gummy black floor at 12:01 I knew I had made the right decision.  A familiar electricity flowed through me, expanding itself into every inch of me.  Finally, I felt calm.  About 3 hours of outtakes, remote fussing, dead camera batteries, musical mistakes, and rogue pointe shoe ribbons later, we were finished.  And I felt really good.

There is a certain high that comes with once again feeling thisclose to ballet.

Do you know what I mean?

lately i’m lovin

new crochet pieces for summer, my impressive collection of ballet books (all thanks to my wonderful gma), my delicate new david yurman cuff (congratulations swan lake gift from mom <3), wildflower painted denim cutoffs from american eagle, new digs: lucky brand wedges (SO comfy) & frye “podiatrist-approved” sandals, pretty new printed Joie tops

Set It Up Right

Here are a few quick shots of my post-show outfit for tonight- the last UpCloseOnHope of the season!  I’ll be wearing my new Joie top (which happens to be the softest shirt I have EVER felt), my new Lucky jeans, the infamous stilt-like Kimchi Blue wedges, a Juicy Couture multi-chain chocker necklace, and a silver Tiffany’s cuff.  I’ve been loving the pajamas-in-public trend lately (see here and here), and the buttery softness of this top combined with the double chest pockets give the effect of relaxed jammie style without being quite so literal.

{The title of this post is also the title of the piece I’ll be dancing tonight.  It’s a contemporary ballet piece set to The Vitamin String Quartet’s rendition of several different Lady Gaga songs.  I know…awesome, right?}

Yay, Chambray!

{hat-flea market, sunglasses-Ray-Ban, shirt-J.Crew, shorts-Lacoste, shoes-Forever 21}

Finally!  A big ol’ faded denimy chambray shirt of my very own!  I’ve been wearing it nonstop since the moment of purchase, and boy does it feel good.  I can already see myself pairing it with all kinds of skirts and leggings and perhaps some pale yellow jeans? (that I don’t actually own yet…).  Its perfectly worn in that third-generation-hand-me-down kind of way, with an amazing boyfriend fit.  Here are a few photos of me goofing around in my new favorite shirt and a silly hat.  Enjoy and happy midweek, dolls!
